I created this for our reliquary project. The goal was to create a "box" that portrayed and directly related to what was going to be kept inside the box. I chose to keep friendship bracelets from a Taylor Swift concert I attended. All of the design aspects direct exactly to that theme. I wanted it to have a very teenage girl feel which I think was achieved!
For about 2 weeks of this project, my time was spent in the wood shop! This was a space I was fairly unfamiliar with, so I was a little intimidated going into this project. Ambitiously, I chose a box that was a round shape, a heart, so a lot of the demos I got weren't going to workout for what I had in mind. That's where my problem solving came in! I ended up hand cutting three heart shapes I hand drew using the band saw. It was tricky using this because I had never done it before, and was determined to make this reliquary look as clean as possible. After the cutting, lots and lots of sanding was done to make the edges line up and to really emphasize the curves of the heart.
For the color and design of the box, was really where I got to let my personality show through to exactly what I wanted the box to look like. Mirrorball's and the theme of love are things that a really big inspiration of mine, Taylor Swift, mentions a lot. Knowing this was a box that was holding sentimental bracelets from the nights I saw her live, I wanted people to be able to look at my box and be able to draw their own connections. The font is something that can be seen a lot in advertisement of her album "Lover". As for the quote on the top, I wanted to make sure that if I was going to be adding words that they were going to give to my final product and not take away. "You are what you love" is something I go by on my day to day, and are wise words from of course, Taylor Swift. The colors very bubbly and girly, it gave me joy to see the colors and therefore it was the perfect fit. The gems on the outside and inside were really what sealed this in for me. The texture and concept it gave was exactly what I was looking for to make this project authentically me!
